By stellawellastar
I've had a chance to use this multimat a few times now and am very pleased with it. I read reviews on many websites before purchasing, and I echo what others have said. This product is great at doing what it was designed to do: be a lightweight, waterproof, multipurpose closed cell foam mat. As a sleeping mat, this might be enough for ultralight backpackers to use in moderate temperatures if you fold it in half. But for anyone else who's a bit more hardcore than car camping, but less hardcore than ultralight, you're going to want something more comfortable because this mat is thin. I already own an Exped synmat, so I did not purchase this for sleeping, but rather to protect the floor of my tent from doggy paws and to add a layer of warmth under my four-legged friend. (For anyone who also owns a Nemo Losi tent - this is lighter weight, cheaper, and warmer than the pawprint made especially for Nemo tents. Sure it doesn't fit the floor perfectly, but it serves the same purpose as the pawprint and many more on top of that.) I have put it in my hammock on cold windy days and it cuts the wind completely. I can't ever see myself huddling under it in a sudden rain shower as they show in the demo video because it's simply too small, but it would be nice to put down on wet or snowy ground if you're taking a break or having a picnic. Unlike what is shown in the picture, the mat I received had black loops on each of the corners, which I presume are for staking down the mat. It does become more comfortable the more times you fold it, which is nice when using it as a sit pad on stumps or rocks. It's quite long when rolled up, which means it needs to be lashed to the outside of a pack or folded differently for daypack use. Overall, this strikes me as more of a luxury item than a piece of essential gear. It will be nice to carry along when I can, but if I ever need to cut weight, this will be one of the first things to go.

By J. Brosch
I bought the previous version of the Multimat for motorcycle camping. I've mostly used it as a tent "carpet." Many camp sites in state parks have #2 gravel as the base, so it helps smooth out the sharp edges of the rocks. On smoother surfaces, I use it as a footprint for the floorless tent vestibule (especially when the ground is wet). But I've also used it for other functions such as: covering my motorcycle during a hail storm to prevent damage, wrapping myself in it to warm up during cold weather breaks from riding, and placing it on wet picnic bench seats or wet ground to keep my butt dry.I'm sure you will come up with other uses that utilize it's key characteristics: waterproof, insulating, durable, and padded (especially when folded up)It is extremely well made and comes in a very nice bag that is easy to tie down to my bike. It weighs 12 oz including the bag.The only thing I don't like is that the foam is "pre-folded" sloppily. That means that the edges don't line up using the pre-formed folds. It's not a huge problem since the bag is long enough to accommodate the mat without being folded perfectly.I lost my original Multimat a couple of weeks ago when the bungie cord that was holding it broke. So I replaced it with the new version of the mat. There are 2 enhancements in the new one. First, it now has loops at each corner so that you can stake it down or tie it to something with rope or bungies. Second, there are non-corrosive snaps around the outside of the mat so that you can connect it to another Multimat either side-to-side or to double the thickness. Since I don't have two Multimats, I won't use that feature. The loops, though, just give it many more potential uses, such as a tarp, a windbreak, or a rain water collector.

By Daniel Hood
These pads have many uses out in the wilderness. If you bought one for purposes other than back country camping, it may not fit your needs. I use it as a sit pad as well as a hammock sleep pad. Spray some silicone on the ripstop side and you have an emergency poncho. Here's a video from the manufacturer that notes several other potential uses [...]
