I've hiked at least 2 or 3 days a week on mountain trails for at least a couple of decades and often use waist or lumbar packs for shorter excursions. Prior to purchasing the Camelbak FlashFlo waist pack, I'd had very positive experiences with the excellent Camelback backpacks, which proved to be well engineered and well made.On short hikes with the Camelbak Flashflo waistpack, a couple of problems stood out. I am 6'2" tall and as noted by another tall reviewer, the hydration tube is not long enough and a tall user must stop and bend awkwardly to reach the tube, defeating the purpose of the convenience of a hydration pack. I solved this problem by cannibalizing another Camelbak reservoir from a backpack, taking the longer tube, and attaching it to the Flashflo reservoir. But this problem would have been easy for Camelbak to solve by simply providing a longer tube. Those who found it too long could easily have shortened it, but a taller user cannot lengthen the standard tube.The other problem I was not able to remedy. When the reservoir is full of water and a few other small necessities are in the pack, the body of the pack tends to roll or sag backward from the top even when the waistbelt is cinched tight. Sometimes it almost seems to roll backwards until it is bottom up. The FlashFlo is poorly engineered in this respect. I've owned lumbar packs from various other manufacturers over the years and those that are well engineered invariably include some sort of engineering to prevent the waistpack from rolling backwards at the top, either by including additional adjustable straps, top and bottom, on either side, or by using internal stays, or other design features.This is all unfortunate, because the concept is an excellent one, and the workmanship as with all Camelbak products seems good. There is a need for a good hydration reservoir waistpack. It may be that part of the problem is that whoever engineered this waistpack at Camelbak was trying to make it look "sleek", racy and uncluttered. If that was the case, unfortunately it was at the expense of comfort and utility to the point of being nearly useless to me.One more relatively minor issue, but an annoyance. Every other waistpack that I've seen or used has dual zipper pulls that can be opened from either direction for the main compartment, allowing it to be set to be opened from either end or the middle. My FlashFlo has a main compartment with a one-way one pull zipper that must hunted for where it is buried deep on the left side, and then pulled all the way across to the right to open the main compartment. With most waistpacks with dual pulls I can position them conveniently at the top of the middle. Someone saved the cost of one zipper pull, at the expense of user convenience and flexibility.

Overall, I love this product - I'm training for a marathon, and it's the absolute best way to keep hydrated. I fill mine with 80% ice, 20% water. By the time I'm done with 1-3 hours of running, it has all turned to water. I am also able to keep my cell phone and gels in the pack. The tube and mouthpiece are genius! I'm not able to drink water while running from a cup, but I can do it with this mouthpiece.There are two things I should mention ... (1) I am smaller female, and I wish the waist was smaller. I have to cinch this all the way tight and wrap the extra belt around to keep it from moving. (2) I have had my back rubbed raw, even though the back has padding. This only happened on my long runs (12+ miles), but then I can't use it for a week, until my back heals. I now use chafing lubricant on my back when I use this, or I put on one very large bandage.If you are purchasing this for hiking, walking, or biking, it should be a perfect fit. But for running, you might consider one of the backpacks that Camelbak makes. Perhaps the chafing would be less; however, it might just be something that we runners need to work around because running creates more bounce for some sports.

Initially I thought this product was not going to work as had tried it on over the hips, but once the bladder is full it was clear this was not going to work. It has to be positioned on the waist & pulled in tight.I tried it on a half training run today, & after stopping after 4-5 miles to make adjustments on the tube direction, I got on this belt really well. No chaffing or blisters. The belt does come a little slack sometimes & so could do with the velcro tapes like others do. A few adaptations shoudk sort this.However, the capacity & ease of use was good. As I'm only 5'2" it worked really well but anybody a good few inches taller would be better suited to the backpack type of Camelbak.
