setup not too bad, sides don't fit right, needs some bolts
By Jeff in Ferndale WA
I received this nine days after ordering, taking advantage of free shipping with Amazon Prime. It took me about four hours start to finish having help only for putting the canopy on the frame. This included a trip to the hardware store to pick up 20 nuts and bolts to bolt it together. There were pins provided for four connectiong points, but I felt that it would be better to bolt it at all the remaining 20 connecting points.Holes were already drilled,I don't know why the manufacturer would not include pins or bolts for all the connections.Cost for the nuts and bolts was 8.04The sides are only 19'6" so there is a gap at each end and the sides are stretched very tight. So tight I'm afraid the grommets may rip out.I intend to cut a few inches off of length of the frame so the sides will fit properly.Manufacturer should add length to the sides in the future. The anchors included are straight rods about 3/8 diameter.I don't know how effective they will be in a stiff wind,so I intend to order the anchoring kit from the same manufacturer. This should have been included as well instead of the straight rods.Overall,I think it sucks that I have to buy extras and make modifications, but it still appears to be a decent product.Update 11/19/10: I was right about the anchors not being adequate.I came home today finding the wind blowing 30mph+ and most of the stakes were pulled up.I was lucky that nothing was damaged.I staked it down with some extra tent stakes I have and am anxiously waiting for the anchor kit I ordered to arrived.I cut off four inches in the length of three of the horizontal supports so now the sides fit properly.

Does the job, but...
By TDHofstetter
...it could have been much better with very little effort on the manufacturer's part. It could be much MUCH better with a little more effort, but with an added cost I'm sure. The bends were obviously made in different batches, maybe on different machines set up for different angles; the T-shaped bends for the gable ends are all bent to one angle, while the X-shaped bends for the middle rafters were all bent to a more acute angle. As a consequence, the walls bow in badly where they join the roof - it looks like an old house that's busy melting into the landscape. Really, it looks bad. If ShelterLogic just paid more attention to the bend angles and made them uniform, it'd look much better. As it is... since the ShelterLogic logo is on the outside where my neighbors can see it, anyone who passes my place can see the poor appearance and draw their own conclusions about whether a ShelterLogic canopy would look right in their yard.Now... one functional complaint I have, that I'd have been willing to pay extra to fix, is that the corners of the walls don't really meet each other - not so as to make a weathertight corner, anyway. There are "fishmouths" all the way up each of the four corners where wind & rain get in. You see, the walls are all completely separate from each other and there are no overlaps at the corners; the walls just tie to the corner posts with bungee cords. It'd be NICE if ShelterLogic came up with a slick corner-overlap kit to close those corners in, but I don't know how they'd attach the overlaps to either wall. Design flaw, back to the drawing board. It DOES do the job, provided the job doesn't require really good protection from the weather. It keeps the direct rain off and snooping eyes (if you're concerned about such things) curious. Don't even think about storing something like archived paper records, even if they're up on pallets; the first windy rain will soak the some of them.Come to think of it, if the walls wrapped around the corners in some fashion, that might actually make it possible to open & close the zippered door with one hand, too - that's really a two-handed proposition, one hand to pull the zipper and the other hand to pull the wall material tight enough so that the zipper will move.Would I buy one again? Probably, but only reluctantly. These DO sell for a pretty low price (I bought mine from Harbor Freight's website, where the price was lower and the shipping was free), and they DO have the largest frame (2" compared to 1-3/8" or smaller) of any comparable canopies. I'd sure be less reluctant, though, if the frame fit better and the corners were weathertight.Oh, one more thing. Do yourself a favor and put a bolt through each of the frame alignment holes to hold the frame together in higher winds (like gusts of 20mph & higher). You'll want 5/16" x 2-1/2" galvanized bolts and nylock (self-locking) nuts - two dozen of each. If you use washers, you'll need 3"-long bolts instead. To install the bolts, you'll need four tools - a strap wrench (to rotate the tubes until the holes roughly line up), a long tapered punch (to make the holes line up REALLY WELL so the bolts will go all the way through), and two end wrenches to tighten the nuts onto the bolts. If you use 1/4" bolts, it'll be easier to fit them through but they'll be sloppy in the holes and won't do the job nearly as well. Don't tighten the bolts too tight (which is why I suggest using nylock nuts) or you'll distort the tubes and I promise you will NEVER EVER EVER get the frame to disassemble ever again unless you cut it apart.
